Urra Field Centre in Almeria

Description

Urra stands centrally within the Sorbas Basin, which has received much attention world wide. Despite almost continuous research since the mid sixties by English, Dutch, French, German and Spanish geologists, we are assured that "there are still a lot of doctorates waiting to be picked up" in the basin, some within walking distance of the house.

Urra already features in the acknowledgements of many dissertations, doctoral theses and papers in scientific journals.

For first degree mapping projects or dissertations in Geography, Geology, Geomorphology, Sedimentology or Environmental Studies, we can provide sufficient diversity for large numbers of students to follow their separate interests.

We are still building up our library whic already holds several hundred papers pertinent to study here. It also contains books to help with the identification of plants, reptiles, etc.

Directions

...BY CAR

FROM ALMERIA
- Take the motorway towards Murcia.
- The turn-off for Sorbas is clearly marked at km 504 (next after Venta del Pobre).
- Follow the country road towards Sorbas for approx 9Km.
- Urra is on the right at Km post 1.4

FROM ALICANTE OR MURICA
- Take the motorway towards Almería.
- The turnoff for Sorbas (Km 514) is clearly marked.
- Follow the country road towards Sorbas for approx 13Km until Km post 498
- Here there is a major junction to the left signposted for Nijar and Carboneras.
- Urra is at sign post 1.4Km on the left.
- There are two turnings off the motorway for Sorbas.
- If you miss you first one follow directions for the other (see above).

FROM GRANADA
- Take the motorway eastward, through Guadix towards Almería until the major junction for Tabernas.
- Turn left onto the N340ª and continue until 1Km past Sorbas.
- Then take a right turning for Nijar and Carboneras.
- Urra is on the left after 1.4Km.

...BY PLANE

There are regular charter flights to Almería airport (approximately 45 minutes away), to Alicante less than two and a half hours, to Murcia (about two hours) and to Málaga (less than three hours).

Policies

To reserve a slot at Urra please pay 10% of the total bill you expect to pay. (Cancellation of an entire booking with 3 months notice will result in a full refund, with 2 months notice will result in a 50% refund, with 1 months or less notice will result in a NO refund) Groups of less than 15 or stays of less than 3 nights can only be accepted after discussion (The minimum of 25 people for at least 5 nights will ensure that your group has the exclusive use of the facilities. Smaller groups without the supplement may find they are sharing.)
